Fatman & X-Men

Ah it was nice having a long weekend but man it was just crowded as hell here in Vegas this weekend (the news said like 300k people were here, like's like 1/4 of the city population). But HOLY HELL i can understand why there are so many concerns about obesity in the US now. There were sooooooo many fat people here. And not just fat, but faaaaaaaat. I'm talking about the kind of people that make me look skinny (and that's really fat). It was just a mad house on the Strip (and i barely went there!) When Leo and i went to the Venetian it took us forever to get out and we weren't even on the main road (we were on Koval on the backside for those tourists who know what i'm talking about).

I also went to see X-Men 3 at the Palms no less. Without spoiling the movie for you, the basic plot is that the "regular humans" have come up with a "cure" to cure the mutants (God i wish i could get rid of my attracting bad drivers power). After the movie, it's gotten WORSE! People are constantly changing lanes for no damn reason and just cutting me off and then later on changing lanes again (sometimes 2 or 3 lanes over). I don't get it, i seem to attract the dumbest drivers. So i typically ask other people to drive for me if they're here :)
Whatever that cure was in the movie, i need more of it. Oh incidently if you haven't seen the movie, make sure to stay till after the credits are over.

Neglected, but not forgotten

The title is inspired from the Corrs song Forgiven, not forgotten.

A few posts back I talked about my mutant powers and how one of them dealt with the security forces at the Palms. Lately I hadn't been feeling the love from them. I've been to the Palms 3 times in the past 2 weeks. Gotta love being a local. Though i don't think they love me enough. Sometimes Leo or my mom get offers in the mail that i don't get so that kinda sucks. But this month i got the May coupons (one of which gives you $5 to spend in the food court, no strings attached). So last week i went in and bought some Panda Express and paid $1.24 for dinner :)

I also got a coupon to get a free first aid kit last friday (really nice too). When i went for the Panda, i drove in, parked, and went almost all the way to the entrance and all i got as a greeting was ONE biker security guard. What's up with that? Last friday was the same deal! But one cool (and bad for me) thing was that i they've installed an updated version of the Star Wars slot machine in the Palms (Thank God it's a penny slot!). I made money so i was happy. Today the free prize at the Palms was a pair of binoculars that are pretty nice looking. BUT WAIT! my friends were back! I didn't see anyone as i walked into the Palms, but as i walked out, a BIG ASS security truck pulled up and drove by as i was going to my car. I felt the love again :) ha ha

I've really enjoying listening to Bill Handel again. I didn't think about getting his podcasts till about 1.5 months ago but now i get them everyday and the podcasts cut out 98% of the commericals and most of the other unnecessary info (like that days traffic). You can subscribe free on iTunes (under Bill Handel). go to http://www.kfi640.com/main.html Right now my podcast subscriptions are:

1. ESPN daily news (though it's a bit boring now since all they talk about is baseball but more basketball since the finals are heating up)
2. Bill Handel (LA morning radio show host for those wondering who i'm talking about)
3. John and Ken Show(also on KFI, same as Bill Handel)
4. Keith and the Girl (www.keithandthegirl.com)
5. Sci Fi channel (for battlestar galactica, great show even for non sci fi lovers)

I barely use my ipod for music anymore (only at the gym). At work i just listen to all these crazy shows.

Ahhh, Kansas City. It was nice to get to go back there again (though it was very brief).

Ahhh, Kansas City. It was nice to get to go back there again (though it was very brief).

The BBQ, the lack of traffic, everything is in English, everyone is white and did i mention the traffic? Well last week i went back to the homestead (first time in about 3 years). Since it was 90 degrees already here in Vegas, it was nice to go back to weather in the 60s. The city has grown quite a bit since i was there last. There are tons of new things everywhere. The Zonarosa is trying to become the new "IT" place up north (i didn't get to go there but it looked like it had a lot of things to do). The Hardee's is still there (the Carl's Jr. of the midwest and east coast) and of course the BBQ! I had both Gates and Arthur Bryant's. Gooooooooood Stuff! The only bad thing about that was that i wasn't able to go to the Original one. That place has a certain "aura" to it. It looks like it was built in the '30s and hasn't been cleaned since. The walls have this "film" on them that can only be achieved by 70 years worth of grease and fire. The fries are cooked in pure lard. They're soggy right out of the frier but man it's part of the experience. Gates is good too and has the best beans i've ever eaten. Morons from Texas have no clue what REAL BBQ is (and this is after 9 years of living in Texas). We didn't really have much time to go around as our schedule was pretty tight, but we got to go to the Plaza, and we passed by the Liberty Memorial, the Mecca for gays of the Midwest (scroll down about 1/2 way and you'll see why). It's also one of the best World War I museums in the world, but i've never been there.

I got to see my best friend Mike's parents again which is always a treat since they're some of the nicest people i know. I also got to see my god parents (both sets) as well as many family friends i haven't seen since i left KC. Alas,,, i didn't get to see any of my friends since it was a busy trip. Luckily when we went to Leo's graduation we only had to go to the Law School's graduation (as opposed to the whole school) so it was only 6 boring speeches instead of 84.

After going back, it'd be nice to go spend a relaxing weekend there (pace of life is sloooooooow there so it's nice and relaxing)
