Ahhh, Kansas City. It was nice to get to go back there again (though it was very brief).

The BBQ, the lack of traffic, everything is in English, everyone is white and did i mention the traffic? Well last week i went back to the homestead (first time in about 3 years). Since it was 90 degrees already here in Vegas, it was nice to go back to weather in the 60s. The city has grown quite a bit since i was there last. There are tons of new things everywhere. The Zonarosa is trying to become the new "IT" place up north (i didn't get to go there but it looked like it had a lot of things to do). The Hardee's is still there (the Carl's Jr. of the midwest and east coast) and of course the BBQ! I had both Gates and Arthur Bryant's. Gooooooooood Stuff! The only bad thing about that was that i wasn't able to go to the Original one. That place has a certain "aura" to it. It looks like it was built in the '30s and hasn't been cleaned since. The walls have this "film" on them that can only be achieved by 70 years worth of grease and fire. The fries are cooked in pure lard. They're soggy right out of the frier but man it's part of the experience. Gates is good too and has the best beans i've ever eaten. Morons from Texas have no clue what REAL BBQ is (and this is after 9 years of living in Texas). We didn't really have much time to go around as our schedule was pretty tight, but we got to go to the Plaza, and we passed by the Liberty Memorial, the Mecca for gays of the Midwest (scroll down about 1/2 way and you'll see why). It's also one of the best World War I museums in the world, but i've never been there.

I got to see my best friend Mike's parents again which is always a treat since they're some of the nicest people i know. I also got to see my god parents (both sets) as well as many family friends i haven't seen since i left KC. Alas,,, i didn't get to see any of my friends since it was a busy trip. Luckily when we went to Leo's graduation we only had to go to the Law School's graduation (as opposed to the whole school) so it was only 6 boring speeches instead of 84.

After going back, it'd be nice to go spend a relaxing weekend there (pace of life is sloooooooow there so it's nice and relaxing)

b!
